Wellington mother Bronwyn Hutchison is trying to raise $100,000 so she can travel to Mexico for stem cell therapy to stop the disease's progress.

She's gradually losing her sight and mobility and says she hopes the treatment will buy her more time with her two young children.

The advocacy group Multiple Sclerosis New Zealand says similar stem cell therapy is available through the health system for blood cancer patients.

Its spokesperson, Neil Woodhams, told RNZ reporter Karoline Tuckey it has been lobbying for MS patients to get the same opportunity.
